Educational Program

Our Educational Leader is Racheal Housden. Racheal leads the development and implementation of the educational programs in our service.

At Narromine Preschool we believe children learn through play.

We offer an interest-based curriculum which embraces the Early Years Learning Framework Principals. The highly trained educators within our Preschool respond to children's strengths, interest and knowledge, and develop a program that allows for child directed activities that will engage and inspire learning and imagination. We embrace all cultures within our community and prepare children for Primary School.

Exceeding National Standard

Narromine Preschool was assessed in April 2024 and was rated “Exceeding National Quality Standard”

What is the Early Years Learning Framework?

This is a National Early Childhood Education Curriculum where all children are offered the same high quality early childhood education.

The Early Years Learning Framework describes childhood as a time of belonging, being and becoming.

  • Belonging is the basis for living a fulfilling life. Children feel they belong because of the relationships they have with their family, community, culture and place.
  • Being is about living here and now. Childhood is a special time in life and children need time to just ‘be’—time to play, try new things and have fun.
  • Becoming is about the learning and development that young children experience. Children start to form their sense of identity from an early age, which shapes the type of adult they will become.

Transition to school

At Narromine Preschool, we believe that some of the most important foundations needed for school, are the social and emotional abilities to cope with school. The child’s confidence to be in a new environment, the ability to follow instructions, to ask for help and to follow routine is fundamental of a successful school transition. We work with the children, families and local schools to develop programs where children are developing their skills to be confident and involved learners. We communicate with the teachers and schools about the individual children, so that children are known before they begin. We believe a successful transition program is only possible when everyone works together and we continue to build strong relationships with the schools.

Orientation to Preschool

We offer orientation to preschoolers to ensure all families starting in the new year are ready and well informed about what preschool involves. Stay tuned for more information as the year comes to a close.

Speech Pathology Service

The preschool employs the services of a Speech Pathologist, who works closely with the teachers to identify and screen any children who may be having difficulty speech or language skills. Following screening a program is written for the child which is then implemented at the preschool.

This service is on a priority basis with preference given to children in their year before school and with the greatest need for the service. It is not available for children who have a pre-existing NDIS plan or who access speech at another service such as Community Health.

Mind Bubbles Program

The preschool has a therapy room – our “Play and Move Room” which is used for our Mind Bubbles Program. Children who attend 2 or more days access this program on a weekly basis. The activities aim to increase balance, coordination, bilateral movement, concentration and focus, along with crossing the midline and brain break activities.

Hear Our Heart Hearing Screening

The Hear our Heart Ear Bus Project visits the preschool each year to deliver their free healthy ears program and targeted hearing testing to help our children achieve better learning outcomes.

The Ear Bus visits the preschool every term to assess the children's hearing. The children’s hearing is assessed on a priority basis, with those children who need retesting given precedence.

At the beginning of the year, a Permission Form and a Parent Concern Checklist will be sent with your child for you to complete. This form remains current for your child’s enrolment at the preschool.
